He has been and is member of a number of international committees and boards, including the European Space Agency's Science Programme Committee (Norwegian delegate since 2000), the European Space Sciences Committee (member 2006-2012, this is an international advisory committee for all aspects of space science) and the Council of the Nordic Optical Telescope Scientific Association (2003 - 2015). Among several national responsibilities, he has been member of the Board of Directors of Andøya Space Education AS, a government owned limited company that initiates, develops, and performs educational activities at all levels of education within subject areas related to space.
